We had such a spiritual experience on Saturday, Elder D. Todd Christofferson held a meeting for all the missionaries in the New Zealand Auckland Mission and the Hamiltion Mission. It was a glorious sight to see all the young missionaries gathered together. The chapel and the cultural hall were filled with missionaries.
He had each row stand and come up and shake hands with him. There were probably at least 500 missionaries there. He looked each one of us in the eye, smiled and thanked us for our service.
There is such power when all the missionaries are together. The singing was out of this world.. It brought tears to my eyes to see such clean, pure, dedicated young people of the church serving the Lord with all their hearts.
My notes from the meeting:
Sister Pearson (the Area President's wife)
Three things I want you to remember as a missionary:
1. Have faith in your calling and setting apart.
2. Remember obedience and sacrifice are the price to receive these promised blessings.
We can't do missionary work without obedience. Obedience brings blessings. Exact obedience brings miracles.
3. Seek for, live for and ask for the Holy Ghost to be with you. Give your all for the work. Seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost.
D &C 50 - You are ordained of me and set forth to preach the word
Make sure we're totally aligned with the Lord. Be converted unto the Lord. Magnify your calling.
President Pearson (Pacific Area President)
Give an example of a magnifying glass and the power it has when it is focused on an object. Focus your lives, your mission on Jesus Christ. Constancy, consistency. Have the Holy Ghost be your teacher.
Average is the enemy of excellence. Improve your abilities. If there is not focus thee is no power. We want you to go home converted to the Lord. Trust him. Rely on Him. Have a relentless pursuit to come unto him forever and ever.
See that you serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength.
Repentance is the process of alignment. Let us always make sure we're aligned with the Lord.
Sister Christofferson
The story in 2 Kings Elisha and the widow. Her sons are going to be taken because her husband died and left many debts. She asks Elijah what she should do. He tells her to bring the small crux of oil from her home. Then go and gather as many pots from neighbors as she can. Elisha instructs her to go home and shut the door. Then pour to oil into the vessels. She was obedient, she had great faith and she was able to fill the vessels with oil, sell the oil in the market place and pay her debts plus money left over to live on.
The Lord wants to bless us abundantly, but we have to do our part and have faith in him.
Elder Christofferson
Prevail on your mission by faith in Christ.
Questions and Answers
1. How do we come to know our Saviour? Think of how you know each other. There has to be communication, constant communication. As you develop a Christlike character you come to know Christ. Work on those attributes. Live as our Father and Jesus Christ live and serve as they serve.
The only way to know exactly what a mission is like is to serve a mission.
2. How do we know when we've done all we can do in teaching investigators?
We don't convert people, the Spirit does. Will investigators sincerely read the Book of Mormon?
That is a key to their sincerity.
Alma 31:5 The word of God has more power than the sword. Virtue of the Word.
When a person has faith in Christ it leads to repentance. The ultimate step in repentance is re-orientation, realignment with the Saviour, binding ourselves to him.
Alma 7:14 I SAY UNTO YOU BAPTIZE UNTO REPENTANCE. CORINTHIANS 8 BAPTISM IS THE FINAL STEP IN REPENTANCE.
Never pass by opportunities in the gospel.
After all we can do means beyond what we can do
D&C 63:60-64 Let all men beware of how they take mine name in their lips.
When you come to the door of an investigator you're carrying the kingdom of God to them.
Live with confidence and faith not with pride and boasting
Bind yourself to the Lord and overcome the world as He did. Be rock solid in the faith
Draw strength from this experience all the days of your life. Jesus is the Son of God - the only begotten of the Father and His grace is sufficient.
