We had a wonderful, spiritual day today. A student, John, from the Chinese/English class was baptized. The sister missionaries have worked with him for several months and today was his baptism. The baptism was held in the Chinese Branch so everything was in Chinese. A Chinese Elder translated everything for us.
There was such joy at the baptism. John, was so happy. The sister missionaries were happy, we were happy and the members of the Chinese Branch were happy. The Spirit was strong throughout the service. When John was baptized he said it didn't take very long, he wanted to be baptized again to remember every detail.
John bore his testimony of how he was converted to the gospel. He came form China to New Zealand about six moths ago. He said he didn't believe in God or in religion. One day he got a call from the sister missionaries. He really didn't want to talk to them, but they kept asking him questions and finally he agreed to meet with them. On the day of the meeting he was conveniently away from home when the sister missionaries came. The next day he was walking down the street and who did he run into? The sister missionaries. He was cordial, but didn't reschedule a meeting. The next day he was in the grocery store and who did he bump into? The sister missionaries. He finally gave in and met with the sister missionaries. He gave them a hard time and they felt like they really weren't making progress with John until they challenged him to read the Book of Mormon. He kept putting off reading the Book of Mormon until one night he felt impressed to open it and start reading. That was the turning point, he knew it was true. The Spirit witnessed to him it was true. He called the sister missionaries and told them he wanted to be baptized!
We've had the privilege of getting to know John in our Chinese/English class. It was wonderful to be at his baptism and see the change in him. He glows with gospel light.
